October is National Orthodontic Health Month, the perfect time to review the positive impact that orthodontic care can have on both long-term dental health and improved self-esteem.
An improved appearance is the most obvious result of braces or Invisalign treatment, but The American Association of Orthodontics and the Caudill Orthodontics team want to stress this month, that the benefits go much deeper. When teeth and jaws are in alignment, it means function (biting, chewing, speaking) is improved, too – a dual treatment benefit! Straighter teeth are easier to brush, clean, and floss as well.
Fixing jaw issues and aligning teeth go hand-in-hand. Improper jaw alignment can cause headaches, jaw popping, pain, and sleep disorders. Correction of the jaw can alleviate or completely fix those issues.
We also mentioned that straighter teeth make it easier to brush and floss. Being able to properly care for your teeth would reduce plaque, cavities, and the risk of further periodontal (gum) disease.
We're just touching the surface when we say that dental health has direct effect on these major health concerns: cardiovascular disease, dementia, respiratory infections, and diabetic complications. Ability to brush and floss because of straight and properly spaced teeth does a world of good.
We mentioned improved self-esteem. Aligning jaws and teeth can lead to a lifetime of smiles and confidence. It's never too late to adjust your smile. As you know, many adults are orthodontic patients, a greater number of them choosing Invisalign.
