What's Involved in An Orthodontic Exam?

Sometimes the hardest part of beginning the orthodontic treatment is the first step- making the appointment! There are many reasons our patients say they put off scheduling their initial exam (and they generally say they wished they had done it sooner). These reasons include making the time, concerns about cost, and also the uncertainty of not knowing what “Free Orthodontic Exam” really means.  If uncertainty is what’s preventing you from finding your dream smile, then we hope this blog will help ease your worries. Here’s what you can expect at your first appointment.

At Caudill Orthodontics, your initial appointment includes both a thorough oral examination and a conversation about your reasons for visiting and potential treatment options. We will also address if it is the proper time to begin correcting your smile and bite.

What can I do to prepare for my orthodontic exam?

Dr. Ryan Caudill recommends that you download the required forms by clicking "Patient Forms" under "Practice Resources" in the main menu of our website. We also have all of the forms at our offices, but if you’d rather get a head start, this is a great place to begin.  We also recommend bringing your insurance information and any details from your dentist, if you were referred to us. Lastly, it can be helpful to write down any questions you may have to lessen the chance of forgetting a question you really wanted to have answered.

How long will my orthodontic exam take?

Your visit will take approximately 45 minutes. The visit prepares you for any possible treatment, whether traditional braces or Invisalign invisible braces. Both methods can be used to correct your bite and the appearance of your smile.
The exam usually includes a 5-minute digital scan of your mouth using 3D modeling technology and some traditional photographs. Both of these baseline studies are necessary to understand your unique concerns.
After we have evaluated your records and the doctor has done their exam, we will conduct a personalized consultation and address the following questions:
We provide a written summary of the findings and a detailed plan that outlines your treatment, goals and estimated fees. Finally, we always have time set aside to answer all your questions.

Is it really free?

Yes! Your consultation and orthodontic exam are completely free, and there is no obligation to begin treatment after your exam.
